Simon O’Connor, the Member of Parliament for Tamaki, has started a local petition encouraging Auckland Council to make much-needed upgrades to Tamaki Drive.  He is asking people to sign the petition and add their voices to his in calling for immediate action.

“The Council has had a Masterplan, providing options around upgrading Tamaki Drive, since 2013, but no work has started.  Obviously, the Council doesn’t see this important road as a priority.  Tamaki Drive must be made safer and more suitable for walkers and cyclists.

“Constituents frequently tell me they want to see improvements made to Tamaki Drive. It is one of Auckland’s most beautiful amenities.  After years of neglect, it is time for Council to allocate the necessary funds and invest in this regionally significant road.

“The final form of an upgraded Tamaki Drive, whether it follows the Masterplan or evolves in another direction, is less important at this stage than making sure Council knows how strongly we feel about the upgrade.”

Mr O’Connor says Tamaki Drive could be made more attractive, less congested, and a lot safer for everyone; Auckland Council just needs to make the effort.
